What happens when some of the World’s most talented classical and contemporary dancers perform to the infectious rhythms of Latin-America and the No 1 hits from Usher, Shakira, Beyonce, Enrique Iglesias, J-Lo, Prince, Chris Brown to name just a few?

What happens when this hit international dance company mixes the dynamics of contemporary dance, brilliant Ballet, powerful street dance and hip hop? The result is an explosive, intensive, sensual and impressively athletic performance, full of raw energy with a distinctly Cuban flavour.

Ballet Revolucion combines twenty of the finest Dancers you will ever have the pleasure of seeing with eight of the hottest young musicians from Havana live on stage

Ballet_Revolucion_11_eventI can’t dance to save my bacon but I love going to the ballet.

The boys get schmick with the nice pants and jackets while the gals dress up to the nines.

Dress up or frock off I say.

But Ballet Revolucion isn’t your average show. Dance seems to be the trend of the moment around Brisbane with all the dance themed shows and tours, but Ballet Revolucion goes out of their way to make it fun.

The energy is staggering with each individual dancer. Grab a program while you’re there and read over their daily routine, it’s incredible. The way they can contort their bodies and then take to the air before landing and moving into a slow and graceful flow makes me envious.

There’s character to this show too. They don’t just perform an advanced waltz or an acrobatic jive. They tell a story with each song, and project an emotion with each longing stare or cheeky grin. When they’re not creating a moment not only feels moving but sincere, they look like they’re genuinely enjoying themselves. This is their regular day “at the office”. I think this is the maxim “Love what you do” personified.

But the dancers though magnificent, talented, attractive, strong, beautiful, insert any positive adjectives you care to read are not the only element to this show. The live band almost steal the show. Hidden on a back platform these guys give us vocals, percussion, laughs and more. Playing hits like “She Bangs”, “Final Countdown” and other hits over the ages this guys provide the atmosphere. Luis Palacios, the percussionist, is enthralling with his high pace conga solo. The singers, Weston Foster and Kristin Hosein both prove worthy vocalists and MCs.

If you’re not clapping along with this great ensemble of performers by the end of the night then there may be something wrong with you.

You should really see somebody.

Ballet Revolucion continues in venues around the country, from the Gold Coast to Toowoomba, to the Sunshine Coast, and Cairns, Rockhampton, Townsville, Mackay, Melbourne and Perth!
