FAST to take over La Boite

And what a massive weekend it will be!

La Boite is proud to once again be hosting the Festival of Australian Student Theatre (FAST), Australia’s only national student theatre festival, from 7-9 September.

Now in its third year, FAST artistic director Benjamin Schostakowski is thrilled to announce a program of 11 works created by some of Australia’s best up and coming theatre makers from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Festival highlights include Here Goes Nothing, directed by The Good Room Artistic Director Daniel Evans (Rabbit, The Reunion), Shut Up You’re Boring and Ordinary directed by The Danger Ensemble Artistic Director Steven Mitchell Wright (Loco Maricon Amor, The Hamlet Apocalypse), and the return of The 24 Hour Play Project.

“I’m excited to see some of the works we’ve programmed this year, the applications were of an exceptionally high standard so we were able to select some truly great works,” Schostakowski said.

“We have invested a great deal of time over the last six months consolidating the FAST executive team. It’s with this stronger team that we are able to this year enhance the menu of programmed events on offer to young theatre makers and audiences.”

In June this year Schostakowski took FAST along with La Trobe Student Theatre’s production of Wake In Fright to the first ever International Student Drama Festival in Sheffield, England.

“The International Student Drama Festival provided us with a great boost in confidence, affirming that we are doing something truly worthwhile with FAST. This year’s festival takes inspiration from the ISDF – we want to have more discussions and more chances to develop practice.”

With this in mind, FAST 2012 will present a variety of interactive workshops and forums, including a NIDA directing workshop.

“FAST will be packed with over 100 young Australian artists from Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, Southbank Institute of Technology, Melbourne University, University of Southern Queensland, La Trobe, Monash University and Sydney University – all new directors, actors, designers and playwrights. If you’re a theatre maker, or you want to be – this is a festival not to be missed.”

FAST takes place at La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre and surrounding venues in the QUT Creative Industries Precinct 7-9 September.

Tickets can be bought online at laboite.com.au or by calling La Boite’s Box Office on (07) 3007 8600.
